Spain is participating in the 25th Alexandria Biennale with the project Blackened Times, a proposal hosted at the Alexandria National Museum as part of this major international contemporary art event held in Alexandria, Egypt.
The Spanish presence is promoted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, through the Directorate-General for Cultural and Scientific Relations and Cooperation of AECID, within the framework of its international cultural action programme. The project is curated by Manuel Romero, who proposes an intervention conceived specifically for the context of the biennial and its Mediterranean dimension.
Blackened Times is articulated as a proposal of strong conceptual and visual intensity, reflecting on the challenges and tensions of contemporary times from a symbolic and critical perspective. The exhibition includes work by Romulo Royo, whose artistic practice, characterised by powerful imagery and an intense narrative, establishes a direct dialogue with the curatorial discourse and with the cultural environment in which the biennial is situated.

The 25th Alexandria Biennale, one of the most established artistic platforms in the Mediterranean and African spheres, brings together in this edition artists and projects from numerous countries, functioning as a space for cultural exchange and international reflection. Spain’s participation with Blackened Times strengthens its institutional and artistic visibility within a strategic context for dialogue between Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
Through this proposal, Spain consolidates its commitment to cultural diplomacy as a tool for the international projection of contemporary art, promoting the presence of Spanish artists and curators in forums of global relevance.
