Romulo Royo, has been positioning himself, throughout his career, as an outstanding contemporary artist whose work is part of the figurative fantasy art. His career has been recognized internationally, and he has recently participated in important fairs and exhibitions. In 2025, he was the only Aragonese artist represented at ARCO Madrid, one of the most influential contemporary art fairs worldwide, where he exhibited at the stand of the Miguel Marcos gallery. It is also worth mentioning the importance of his publications, especially the recent book that shows a large part of his career published by The Guide Artists last February, as well as projects such as the video documentary that he will star in together with Luis Royo, produced by Sintregua Comunicación and published at the Sitges 2025 International Fantastic Film Festival.

The inclusion of Romulo Royo in the Contemporary Museum Pablo Serrano in Zaragoza represents a significant milestone both for the artist and for the contemporary art scene in Spain. This institutional recognition not only validates his career, but also elevates figurative fantasy art to the museum environment, consolidating it as an artistic expression in its own right.
On this occasion, the artist’s selected artwork is Las Lámpades (oil on canvas, 195x290cm), a piece loaded with symbolism that connects mythology with the history of Spanish art. Inspired by the torch-bearing nymphs of classical tradition, whose light could induce madness, Romulo Royo reinterprets this myth through the prism of Goyaesque engravings. In his pictorial version, that light not only represents an altered state, but a creative revelation, a bridge between the rational and the irrational. Thus, Las Lámpades becomes a tribute to the tormented figure of Goya and to the connection between madness, inspiration and art, three elements that lie at the very root of the creative process.

The Contemporary Museum Pablo Serrano, a benchmark in the promotion of Aragonese and national contemporary art, stands as a space where tradition and the avant-garde converge. The presence of Romulo Royo in its walls not only enriches its collection, but also underscores the museum’s openness to new artistic currents that, like fantasy, explore alternative imaginaries and expand the limits of creativity.
This collaboration between the artist and the museum not only celebrates artistic excellence, but also invites the public to discover and appreciate new forms of expression that, until now, have often remained on the margins of the institutional circuit.
We remind you that Romulo Royo will be present at the opening of our new exhibition Creatures & Monsters, which will take place on April 25 at 19.00h at our headquarters. In it he will share some words about his novelties and collectors will have the opportunity to purchase his book The Guide Artists, as well as bring it to sign and dedicate it to each of you.
